Join Lara Call Gastinger as she returns to Atelier Clos Mirabel for her third botanical art retreat. Enjoy using watercolours to capture the colours and textures of the local plants in the south west region of France. We will sketch in the field and refine our observations to create memorable paintings.

Join Lara Call Gastinger as she returns to Atelier Clos Mirabel for her third botanical art retreat. Enjoy using watercolours to capture the colours and textures of the local plants in the south west region of France. We will sketch in the field and refine our observations to create memorable paintings.


The supplies are what is listed but you’ll need to purchase your own paints.

I use a limited palette of: Ultramarine blue, Prussian Blue, Alizarin Crimson, Scarlet Red, Lemon yellow, Indian Yellow, Sepia brown.

Supplies: 

Fabriano artistico HOT press paper (traditional or bright white), 300 lb. Arches or Saunders are good options.

Round watercolor brushes size 2, 3/0 (kolinsky sable are best) Winsor Newton series 7 Raphael Kolinsky #8408 are great brands) 

water dish/jar (a small short jelly jar works fine)

watercolor palette (I recommend a flat white dinner plate, seriously), please NO plastic!

kneaded eraser

tracing paper (roll or pad)

HB pencil

a portable desk light
